Jessica Jens CF-L1 | CF Kids Certified

My name is Jessica Jens. I started CrossFit nine years ago and have recently earned my CF Level 1

Trainer Certificate and the CrossFit Kids Certificate. I am a youth development professional who has worked in community-based, non formal education, with a focus on outdoor and adventure education for 25 years.

I have an educational background in Adventure Education and have had the pleasure of leading many different groups of youth on backcountry adventures over the years, including rock climbing and backpacking.

I’m currently working in administration and lead the statewide Positive Youth Development Institute for UW-Madison’s Division of Extension.

CrossFit Kids is indeed a specialized strength-and-conditioning program tailored specifically for children and teenagers to address their unique developmental needs while fostering a passion for fitness from an early age. Here's a breakdown of key features of the CrossFit Kids program:

  1. Specially Designed for Kids and Teens: CrossFit Kids workouts are structured to accommodate the physical, cognitive, and emotional development of children and teenagers. The exercises and movements are age-appropriate and focus on building foundational skills in a safe and supportive environment.

  2. Group Setting: Participants engage in workouts in a group setting, promoting camaraderie, teamwork, and social interaction. Group sessions create a fun and motivating atmosphere that encourages participation and fosters friendships among young athletes.

  3. Fun and Engaging Workouts: CrossFit Kids workouts are designed to be enjoyable and engaging for children and teenagers. Incorporating elements of play, competition, and challenge, these workouts capture the interest and enthusiasm of young participants while keeping them physically active and energized.

  4. Broad, Inclusive, and General Fitness: CrossFit Kids workouts follow the principles of broad, inclusive, and general (B.I.G.) fitness. They incorporate a wide variety of functional movements, including bodyweight exercises, weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardiovascular activities. This approach promotes overall physical literacy and prepares young athletes to excel in various sports and activities.

  5. Scalability: Workouts are scalable to accommodate participants of all fitness levels, abilities, and ages. Whether a child is new to fitness or has previous athletic experience, CrossFit Kids workouts can be adjusted to suit their individual needs and challenges, ensuring that every participant can participate and progress at their own pace.

Overall, CrossFit Kids provides a dynamic and holistic approach to fitness for children and teenagers, instilling healthy habits, confidence, and a lifelong love of physical activity. By focusing on fun, community, and personal growth, the program empowers young athletes to become well-rounded individuals and athletes.
